About the game

A world rebuilt through action

Terranigma is a top-down action JRPG originally developed by Quintet and released in Japan in 1995, followed by Europe and Australia in 1996. You play as Ark, a young man from the Darkside village of Crysta whose mistake begins an extraordinary journey to restore the surface world.

Its real-time battles combine RPG progression with responsive spear attacks, running, jumping, guarding, equipment, and consumable magic. Exploration moves from compact puzzle dungeons to a changing world where plants, animals, people, towns, and technology return in stages.

Why the adventure still stands apart

Responsive spear combat

Ark's running and jumping attacks make movement part of every battle, while guarding answers projectile-heavy enemies.

A world that visibly changes

Progress is more than a new map marker: continents, ecosystems, towns, and human culture return through your actions.

Resource-based magic

There is no ordinary MP bar. Magirocks are exchanged for one-use magic, turning every spell into a deliberate choice.

Terranigma FAQ

Quick answers for new and returning players

Spoiler-light answers to the questions people ask before starting the game or following the 2027 release.

01What kind of game is Terranigma?

Terranigma is a single-player, top-down action JRPG. It combines real-time spear combat, character progression, equipment, consumable magic, exploration, puzzles, and a story about restoring the world.

02When is the Terranigma re-release coming out?

The announced release window is early 2027. As of August 26, 2026, the official Steam and GOG listings do not show an exact release day.

03Which platforms will the modern version support?

It is announced for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and GOG.

04How does combat work in Terranigma?

Combat happens in real time. Ark can thrust, dash, jump, perform aerial attacks, and guard against many projectiles, so positioning and timing matter as much as equipment levels.

Terranigma does not use a standard MP bar. You find Magirocks and exchange them at magic shops for rings or summon pins that are consumed when used.

06Is Terranigma Wiki an official website?

No. Terranigma Wiki is an independent fan-made guide and is not affiliated with Square Enix, Quintet, Kamui Fujiwara, Clear River Games, or any platform holder.
